International Day for the elimination of violence against women is observed on 25th November every year. Back on 19th December 1999, the General assembly of the United Nations designated a specific day globally to spread awareness about the elimination of violence against women.
This date was declared after the cruel assassination of the three Mirabal sisters, political activists in the Dominican Republic, on the orders of Dominican ruler Rafael Trujillo in 1960.
Violence against women has become a global issue, and it is the utmost need of the hour to spread the maximum awareness to safeguard women’s rights, which is also a violation of human rights.
Orange Day is also another term sometimes used for International Day for the Elimination of Violence against women.
