World Humanitarian Day is marked on August 19 annually to honor humanitarians across the world. The day is observed to pay tribute to people who sacrificed their lives despite the odds and continue to provide protection and life-saving support to people in need. Every year, the United National General Assembly marks the event with a new theme.
Importance Of World Humanity Day
We have seen countless such examples in which countless leading line doctors, researchers associated with our medical science, without caring for their lives, not only served the suffering humanity. But during this pandemic, many such invented the vaccine, which could control this epidemic.
How many doctors have become such martyrs who have dedicated themselves to serve the suffering humanity with their lives and family responsibilities. Today is the day to pay homage to such warriors.
Why Is World Humanity Day Celebrated
This day commemorates the death of Sergio Vieira de Mello, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General in Iraq. De Mello was killed along with 21 aid workers in the bombing of the United Nations Headquarters in Baghdad, Iraq, on August 19, 2003.
For the service of the humanity of these people, they had laid down their lives and were martyred. Five years after the event, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) designated 19 August as World Humanitarian Day, as part of a resolution of the Coordinating Committee on Emergency Assistance of the United Nations.
